A few friends and I were lucky to have been invited by BR to try out his playground. At 2 am on Saturday, I met with the boys and we headed off north, to Sacrifice Valley.
We arrived around 0630h and were greeted with hot coffee, a hearty breakfast and warm welcome from Madame Rowe and Sir BR. It was raining non-stop but that didn’t stop us from packing our stuff and get ready to hit BR’s training ground: the Lone Dead Tree Trail.
The start was already challenging. It was a steep climb that we all just walked and shared stories and friendly bantering. We entered the trail, and what I saw was very scenic. Nothing really beats the beauty of nature!

I stopped awhile to enjoy it and after taking some pictures, I started to run to catch –up with the group.
We then ran through the rolling terrain. The trail is already established, but if you are not familiar with the route, you can easily get lost. The constant rain didn’t make it any easier, making the trail muddy and slippery.
After a few hours, we had our first rest stop. We had a very refreshing ice buko, brought by Danni (BR Elite Runner) Later, we started to run again.
Ariel, Ronnel and I were left behind by the rest of the group as we neared the last peak. The others were really fast and knew their way through the trail. Too bad for the three of us, we were newbies and got lost along the way. I can see where we were needed to go, so I decided to bushwack our way to the saddle. When we got there, one of BR’s runner met us to lead us to the peak.

It was already past 1pm and all were tired and hungry, especially ariel (doing the ekis ekis ekis!). We then headed to the river to have lunch. We had a good lunch, thanks to Madame Rowe for the lunch box, and Danni for bringing it up the trail.
The run back to our starting point proved to be more challenging. I was already tired and cold (I had to let go of my Anton Krupicka japorms ) and the trail was a series of uphill and downhill.

After the last long cemented and very slippery downhill, we reached Case Rowe where a feast was waiting for us!

Thank you BR for bringing us to your playground. It was both a beautiful sight and a great challenge to test our trail running skills. Until next time!
